Shopping

Shopping in Bangkok is fantastic. From huge street markets and night bazaars, through to world class shopping malls, Bangkok has it all. Moving around Bangkok, you often feel like there will be a huge shopping mall on every street corner, and in the centre of town, that’s pretty much the case.

Shopping Malls:

Central World: This is a huge shopping mall. It is very easy to get lost in, and sometimes difficult to even find an exit. A generous number of shops selling designer names, with numerous Western shops such as Next, Topman, Boots, Calvin Klein, La Senza and even an Arsenal FC club shop.

Also contains:
Cinema and IMAX
Bowling
Food Hall

MBK: This malls full name is Mah Boon Krong. It is one of Bangkok’s most popular shopping locations for both locals and tourists. It contains around 2000 shops, a cinema and bowling complex on the top level and a food hall on the 6th floor. Shops sell everything from electronics, to clothes, to bags and accessories. There are cheap shops, and expensive shops. It basically is a good all round mall, which is why it is one of Thailand’s most visited malls.

Platinum Fashion Mall: This mall contains so many shops you could not possibly keep count. Most shops though are very small, and cater for the wholesale market. You can get some very good bargains here when you purchase over three items at a time. Most shops sell women’s clothes and accessories, but there are also a wide range of shops selling men’s clothes too. There is a good sized food hall on the top floor, but no entertainment complex. Don’t be surprised to find people lugging huge suitcases around the mall filled with their shopping. Platinum is located just round the corner from Central World, and a few minutes down the road from Pantip IT mall, and therefore you can make a good all round shopping trip buy visiting all three.

Siam Center: Although being one of Bangkok’s oldest malls, Siam Center actually attracts a young crowd. It is a young, vibrant and fun shopping mall, which is located smack bang in the middle of Siam Squares’ battling shopping malls. It has undergone numerous renovations since its birth in 1976, and is a great place to shop with children or teenagers.

Well worth a visit, especially if the exchange is good as there are some real bargains to be had. Just be careful and ensure you are aware whether or not you are getting a genuine product or a cheap copy.
