Our Top Tips

Different culture, different alphabet, different everything. Bangkok will be a struggle at times, but follow the tips below and things should be a lot easier.

• First and foremost - explore this great city. Ride the Skytrain, shop in the malls, experience the nightlife, eat the amazing street food. Get stuck in from the moment you get to Bangkok and you won't be dissapointed.

• Do not tell a taxi or tuk-tuk driver that this is your first time in Bangkok. They will exploit that as much as they can.

• Do not use a taxi firm touting for business inside the airport terminal. Simply walk out the main doors and join the queue. This way you will get a cheaper taxi.

• Never believe someone who tells you that an attraction or place is closed. (We once took a taxi to the train station, having already purchased a ticket previously, but the taxi driver kept trying to convince us that the ticket office was closed. He took us to a small tourist agent next to the station despite us actually showing him we already had tickets. Believe us when we say - they never give up trying to earn a commission)

• If a tuk-tuk driver offers you a day tour of Bangkok for 10 baht, you will be taken to every tailor and gem stone shop he can think of to top up on petrol vouchers and commission. Don’t do it.

• If something sounds too good to be true, it most probably is.

• Pick up a free Bangkok map from the taxi queue in the airport, or any MRT or BTS station. Also check out our maps section as our maps are specially made by us to help you find any hotel, bar, club or attraction that we think is worth checking out.
